Adopt-a-Library
CODE is a Canadian charitable organization that has been promoting
education and literacy in the developing world for more than 40 years.
Their Adopt-a-Library program provides people with the opportunity
to directly donate money which will help fund libraries in developing
countries.

Kigali
Public Library
The Kigali Public Library will be the first public library in Rwanda.
The project, which began in 2000, has been fortunate to benefit from
government and non-profit support. The library's anticipated opening
is in 2007.

Lubuto
Library Project
The Lubuto project is creating libraries of quality to serve African
children in vulnerable circumstances, such as street kids. Lubuto
aims to provide more than just a "room full of books" in
their libraries. "They provide information and literacy services.
They provide a community space for social interaction, community building,
and entertainment purposes. They provide a safe, nurturing physical
space for children who otherwise might not have a safe place to go".

Honduras
Library Project
The Casa del Nino Orphange in San Pedro Sula, Honduras was greatly
in need of resources after Hurricane Mitch in 1998. Part of their
rebuilding has included a Library Project. The project involves building
a library and filling it with a multi-genre collection for boys.

Kitengesa
Community Library
Kitengesa is a small trading center in the central region of Uganda.
The Kitengesa Library Project began in 1999, and aims to promote a
reading culture in the area. Their objectives include building both
circulating and reference collections and maintaining the building
as both a library and community meeting place.

Osu
Children's Library Fund
The Osu Children's Library Fund aims to promote a reading culture
in Africa, primarily in Ghana and for children. They strive to build
libraries that are safe, quiet and clean and contain culturally relevant
material. They also give literacy classes in their libraries and share
their experiences on how to build small community libraries.

Friends
of African Village Libraries
The Friends of African Village Libraries (FAVL) provides assistance
to libraries in sub-Saharan Africa. They do this by "refurbishing
community-donated buildings, purchasing books by local authors and
in local languages, sending donated and collected books, providing
for librarian salaries, extending financial support to existing village
libraries in Africa, and sponsoring librarian training and library
outreach and advocacy".
