Guatemala-Asturias Program

Follow our work on the ground in Guatemala, April 13 – 28

Since September 2009 Librarians Without Borders and the Miguel Angel Asturias Academy in Quetzaltenango (Xela), Guatemala have worked in partnership to promote literacy and learning. The focus of our collaboration is on the development and operation of a library at the Asturias Academy. By creating a community library in Xela to serve students, their families and members of the community, the Asturias Academy aims to foster a love of reading and promote education.

The success of this project is built on the contributions of many LWB volunteers and donors. Help us continue to support literacy in Guatemala by giving to the Librarians Without Borders Guatemala Program:

Without reading materials, the possibilities of education are seriously inhibited. The Asturias Library provides its students, their families, and, eventually, the wider community – most of whom live on less than $3 a day – access to books and internet resources.
